ABOUT US
Fusion Dance was founded in 2013 to give Towson University students an opportunity to express their passion for dance in a fun and supportive environment. We offer a variety of levels, as well as styles, to accommodate the skillset of every dancer. Main styles of dance include: jazz/jazzfunk, hip-hop, contemporary, modern, ballet, and tap.
Fusion Dance Team is a sisterhood of dancers who attend both social and dance-related events. We are involved with other clubs on campus, greek life, and events in the community.

One of the most unique things about Fusion is that we allow our members to tailor their level of involvement/commitment. We understand that some dancers prefer a fun, laid-back dance experience, while others may miss the intensity of competitive studio dance.
We offer 3 levels of dance to choose from: Open Dances, Audition Dances, and Athletic Dances.
Dancers may choose to audition for the Athletic/Audition Dances that compete and perform at campus events, or sign up for recreational Open Dances. Dancers can also choose how many individual dances they want to participate in. We ask our dancers to make these decisions carefully, because membership is a year-long commitment and each dance commands its own weekly practice time slot.

For information about the audition/sign-up process and membership requirements, please see our Join the Team page.
OPEN DANCES
Open dances do not require auditions. Members need only sign-up during the sign-up window. We encourage those interested to sign-up early, as these dances are first-come first-serve and will be capped at a maximum # of dancers.

Open dances most closely compare to recreational dance classes. Open dances serve a variety of levels and are generally larger in size. Dancers gradually learn a routine over the course of the year, for a Showcase in April/May. Choreographers cater the choreography to various skill levels and will often provide opportunities for individual dancers to showcase special skills.
AUDITION DANCES
Audition dances require an audition.* Dancers will learn and perform a short section of choreography before being selected by the choreographer to join.

Audition dances are generally smaller and require a moderate to high level of skill. Dancers do not necessarily need to be highly technical, but should have a strong stage presence. We look for performers.

Dancers in Audition dances will have additional responsibilities, including extra practices, performances, and dress rehearsals. Most, usually all, of these dances are brought to competition(s) in the Spring. Occasionally, opportunities will also present for Audition dances to perform at events on campus. Audition dances also perform in the Showcase in April/May.
ATHLETIC DANCES
Athletic dances require an audition.* Dancers will learn and perform a short section of choreography before being selected by the choreographer to join.

Audition dances are generally moderately-sized and require a moderate to high level of skill. Dancers do not necessarily need to be highly technical, but should have a strong stage presence. We look for high-energy performers. Athletic Dancers should also be able to pick up choreography fast, as these routines are taught/learned quickly for performances early in the Semester.

Dancers in Athletic dances will have additional responsibilities, including extra practices, performances, and dress rehearsals. Athletic dances are performed at football games, basketball games, and other campus events. All Athletic dances are brought to competition(s) in the Spring and perform in the Showcase in April/May.
WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE ON THE TEAM?
SHOWCASE
All Fusion Dance Team members have the opportunity to perform in a Showcase in April/May. This performance showcases Fusion Dance Team's talented dancers, student choreography, and the Open, Audition, and Athletic dances that the dancers have been refining all year.

In addition, Showcase features a company-wide production piece, senior piece, and a collection of solos, duos, and trios usually performed by our Junior and Senior members.
On-Campus Performances
Fusion Dance Team performs at numerous on-campus events throughout the year, including TigerTHON, football games, basketball games, and Greek Life events like, "Dance the Madness" and "Greek Sing."
Competitions/Conventions
Fusion Dance Team attends at least one Dance Competition/Convention per year. Members not competing can still participate in convention, taking master classes from professional and celebrity instructors. Fusion Dance Team attends the Evolve Dance Convention/Competition at Delaware University in Spring. In the past, Fusion Dance Team has taken home both trophies and seen team members 'tapped' with full scholarships to New York and Los Angeles, to assist at other conventions.
Team Social Events & Big/Little
One of our longest-standing traditions is Big/Little. Most of our members choose to participate in this tradition because it is part of the social aspect of our team. Some of our "fams" go back generations, but we are always growing and starting new fams! "Reveal" is the event we hold where it is 'revealed' to Littles which Big they've been paired with. For those who are unsure about Fusion and choose to forgo Big/Little and Reveal, there are still plenty of other opportunities to stay socially-involved in the team.

We host various team bonding events over the year as well as, team outings, weekend getaways, socials, and a formal.

Our team also hosts collaborative events with other clubs on campus. In the past, this has included photoshoots, Zumba/dance classes, and a 5K. There are other off-campus social opportunities with clubs and greek life for those who wish to participate.
Student Choreography
Fusion Dance Team provides members an opportunity not only to dance and perform/compete, but to choreograph as well. All of Fusion's dances are choreographed by students, including those dances which have gone on to win titles at competition.
Community Service
Fusion Dance Team gives back to the community, participating in service events and volunteering our time at charities in the Baltimore area. Every year we take part in the BIG Event Towson. We've also fundraised and hosted a number of different charity events. In recent years, we've worked with Ronald McDonald House, hosting craft nights with the kids and keeping spirits high at the start and finish lines of the Red Shoe Shuffle.
Solos/Duos/Trios & Senior Sendoff
Our team's seniors get the opportunity to choreograph and perform a senior dance piece. This piece serves as a farewell to all our graduating team members.

Aside from the senior production piece, Junior and Senior team members have the opportunity to sign-up and perform a solo, duet, or trio with any dancers of their choice.
